She is survived by a son, John Silvia and his wife Kathleen of Wheat Ridge CO, two grandchildren, Alex and Samantha, a sister, Adele Seay and her husband Irwin (Sonny) of Longmeadow MA, a brother, Mark Barthel and his wife Robyn of Longmeadow MA, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved friend, Salvatore Arnone of Hackensack, NJ. Janet graduated from Gardner High School and went on to graduate from Becker College. Janet worked at Educational Testing Services, Agfa Corporation and Sealed Air Corporation for many years and had immense pride in her chosen profession as a Career Woman. Janet traveled the Planet, North to South, East to West. She leaves behind many cherished colleagues and friends who meant the world to her. A Memorial Service will be planned later this year at St Andrews Episcopal Church in Longmeadow, MA.

In lieu of flowers, the family has a fundraiser open for donations.

She was married to her high school sweetheart the late Ubaldo “Wally” Lopez who preceded her in death on April 30, 2005. They were married on April 18, 1956, in the Philippines and immigrated to the United States later that year. Silvia was an advocate of higher education and was a teacher in the Philippines and an eighth-grade teacher for St. Joseph Catholic School, Danville. She also started the St. Joseph Student Council in 1965. Silvia was a consummate hostess and took great pride in her home. Besides entertaining, she enjoyed playing card games such as Bridge, Mahjongg, studying history and fashion and having lively political discussions. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her loving daughter, A. Grace Lopez (Steven Engel) of Washington, DC and her sisters; Adoracion and Aurora, of the Philippines.
